The lecture covers two main topics. First a brief introduction into network architectures used for distributed memory computers and their performance characteristics is presented. In a second step extended Amdahl's law for a real world stencil based distributed memory parallelisation is discussed and the impact of different domain decomposition strategies is evaluated.
